About
I am a genderqueer (gender) queer (sexuality) feminist (moderately radical) sociologist (cum philosopher cum educator cum activist cum human bean who wants to make a difference) whose work has focused on sex, gender and sexuality, as well as LGBTI ageing. I love ideas, yea even Theory, as tools with which to think about our lives – and change them. I’m an Incrementalist rather than a Revolutionary because I think it’s way harder to build up than to tear down, and rubble is not a fun habitation (and I’ve been through an earthquake, so I think I’m qualified to make that call). But an Incrementalist of the hopefully-within-my-lifetime rather than the sometime-in-this-geological-aeon variety. I’m much more interested in how and why societies and institutions and individuals Change than in why they remain Stable – I think stability is vastly overrated. That’s probably because I’m a white, well-educated and reasonably healthy denizen of a 21st century post-industrial capitalist pluralistic secular democratic welfare state – but please don’t think I take that for granted – I render heartfelt thanks to the goddess on a daily basis for same. And this is just a place to dump some of the thoughts, reflections, queries, speculations, ratiocinations and flights of fancy buzzing around in my overcrowded brain box. Enough already.
Oh, and I like trees. A lot.
